Passion

The saddest people I’ve ever met in life are the ones who don’t care deeply about anything at all. Passion and satisfaction go hand in hand, and without them, any happiness is only temporary, because there’s nothing to make it last.” -Nicholas Sparks (Dear John)
The movie ‘Dear John’ sucked. However, I’ve heard the book is better and actually makes sense.
Now that we’ve moved past that, I must say I totally agree with this quote. I honestly don’t understand how one can go through life without being passionate about something. For me, it’s music. I LOVE music. I’m one of the biggest band nerds you will ever meet. In fact, I’m currently wearing a shirt that states in big, bold, letters “BAND NERD (Suit up or shut up)”. I not only just play clarinet in my school’s marching and symphonic band, but also in the pit for the school’s spring musical, church band, and I tryout for as many honor bands that I can. I enjoy attending retreats and recitals of students and teachers who love music just as much as I do. The whole experience just feels right to me.
I’ve been called crazy for wanting to major in music education. Personally, I don’t care about their opinion. This has been something I’ve wanted since 7th grade, and by the looks of it, that ain’t changin’ anytime soon. I think people should just be happy that I’m a junior in high school and have given thought of what I want to do for the rest of my life.
I’m not the greatest clarinet player, but I have a pretty clear picture of where I want to be and how to get there. I’m not going to let laziness, opinions of others, or drugs/alcohol, and/or other stupid things get in the way. I’ve seen people with GREAT talent get distracted, and fall. It’s saddening.
Go find something you are passionate about, and run towards it. Whether, it’s music, inventing, Jesus, math, or blogging, give 110%. Plus, as a closing thought, passion makes people SO much more attractive. ;)
Whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly as if working for the Lord and not for men. -Colossians 3:23
